Tools
Once you get past the initial setup of the WordPress blogging platform and installation of the provided design, you should not need any special tools. However, you will need to have one application ready before you begin uploading, creating, and sharing.
FTP (file transfer protocol) client
You will need this piece of software to upload files to your new hosting account once you have WordPress installed.
A popular and well-supported FTP client, which is available for both Mac and Windows PCs, is Filezilla (http://filezilla-project.org/). We suggest downloading, installing, and using it for all your FTP needs. If you want a quick tutorial on using Filezilla, read the following boxed information.
Using Filezilla
The first thing you have to do is setup the connection to the FTP server assigned to you by your webhost. In Filezilla, you will see a "quick connect bar" below the icon bar in Filezilla that looks like the following image, but without any data. Enter the host name, user name, and password into the appropriate fields and click the "Quickconnect" button.
Note: You should have received FPT server, login, and password information when you signed up for your hosting account. If not, refer to your webhosting account information or contact your webhost.
Now that you're connected, you need to know how to transfer files. Filezilla, and most any FTP client, gives you two file manager windows (as seen in the picture below). One shows the files on your computer (local), and the other shows the files on your server(remote). If you want to move files to your server, drag the appropriate files or folder from the "local" window to the "remote" window and drop them into the appropriate folder(s).
